Know Your Fighter: Nima Behrouz

Full Name:
Nima Behrouz

Age:
23

Where were you born:
Perth, Australia

Where do you live:
Perth

Which gym do you train out of:
Kickass MMA

Who are your coaches:
Steve Kennedy

What belts or rankings do you currently possess as a martial artist:
Multiple state wrestling champion, National juniors wrestling champion

What sports or activities did you participate in growing up:
Wrestling

When did you begin to take MMA seriously as a hobby and then as a potential profession:
At age 20 I started training in MMA. After my first amateur fight — at a country show in Geraldton with about 900 people — I became obsessed with the feeling of competing.

Favourite aspect of training or favourite session of the week, and why:
Sparring on Mondays and Wednesdays. These sessions take it out of you the most, and you feel the most alive after a hard sparring session. Everything you practise in other sessions becomes evident in live sparring.

What are your greatest strengths as an athlete or a fighter:
My pressure — whether standing or on the ground, I can push the pace and force mistakes out of my opponents.

How would you describe your fighting style:
Mainly a boxing/wrestling style. I look to finish with my hands, and if that falls short, I’ll take my opponent down.

What is your favourite sport and why:
Mixed Martial Arts — in my view, it’s the purest form of sport for the human species: one person against another, testing who is more strategic, stronger, and more skilled.

Who is your favourite athlete:
Islam Makhachev and Khamzat Chimaev — both incredibly skilled fighters whose humble, disciplined, and private way of living I admire.

Who is your favourite combat sports athlete:
Islam Makhachev and Khamzat Chimaev — for the same reasons above.

What are your immediate and long-term goals:
I plan to turn pro next year. At 24, I feel it will be the right time to step up to the big leagues and truly test myself.

When fans see your name on a fight poster, what should they expect:
A high-level amateur fighter. I don’t believe I’ve truly shown what I’m capable of yet, but my coaches and training partners know my potential — I just need to execute on fight night.

How do you see your upcoming fight playing out:
I believe I’ll catch him on the feet. I’ve been sharpening my boxing for months, and I believe I can finish him there. He might be taller, but as they say: the taller they are, the harder they fall.

A final message to any friends, family and supporters:
Thank you all so much for watching. I’ll do my best to put on a great performance and not disappoint. Much love to everyone supporting me.
