ETERNAL MMA AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONS: THE BANTAMWEIGHTS
In recent years the Australian bantamweight scene has been buzzing with a deep talented fighter pool full of competitive and interesting match ups. Eternal have been at the forefront of developing this division as our earlier cards concentrated on building the smaller (and some say more exciting) weight divisions. This culminated in our first two bantamweight champions being snapped up by the two biggest MMA organizations on the planet.
After winning the inaugural bantamweight title at Eternal MMA 5 in the Coolangatta Hotel on Saturday May 3rd 2014, Reece McLaren went on to defend his title twice before being snapped up by ONE Championship. The vacant bantamweight title was then contested between Ashkan Mokhtarian and Shannon Ross at Eternal MMA 16 on Saturday April 2nd 2016. The title again became vacant when Ashkan was snapped up by the the worlds premier MMA organisation, the UFC.
Mitch Martin won the vacant bantamweight title back in May 2017 with a TKO victory over the highly regarded Michael Addison in Perth at Eternal MMA 25. Mitch has since defended the belt twice, once against Ty Hogan in a 3 round barn burner on the Gold Coast at Eternal MMA 29 with Mitch getting the win via TKO in the 3rd round. The Perth based champion then travelled east again to defend his belt at Eternal MMA 30 against local favourite Chris "Kewlbonez" Morris and again got his hand raised and the belt wrapped around his waist after a slick triangle submission win inside the first 3 minutes.
