A COMMITMENT TO WMMA 23 Jun 2019

Eternal MMA are committed to the growth and development of female MMA and female athletes, it’s a statement that’s easy to proclaim but seems a lot more difficult to prove.

Female sports participation and female sports fans viewership numbers are currently surging worldwide across all sports. Brands and sports franchises are scrambling to make a lasting impact in this market and grab the lion’s share of female fans by championing a “hero” to this rapidly growing fanbase.

Of all sports, MMA, has achieved this better than most. The timeline regarding the impact of females in MMA is impressive, by any standards. The UFC’s president, Dana White, claimed in January 2011 that women would “never” fight in the UFC, in November 2012 the UFC signed Strikeforce Champion Ronda Rousey, in September 2015 Dana claimed that this was “the best decision he ever made” and in November 2015 UFC 193 in Melbourne had a female main event and female co main event and to this day still is the highest attended UFC event ever.

Eternal MMA have had 30 female fights, with 41 different female fighters across our 45 events so far. When you read that statistic it certainly doesn’t sound impressive, we are averaging just two WMMA fights every three events and Eternal have had more WMMA fights than any other Australian promotion.

We recognise the importance, potential and attraction of WMMA. In fact nine of the top ten videos on our youtube channel for the last twenty four months have been WMMA fights. WMMA fights have took fight of the night honours in two of the last three Eternal events and our number one youtube video “Jessica Rose Clark VS Janay Harding” has had one million views so far. Jessica has since went on to be successful in the UFC and Janay has also headed Stateside and has been successful with Bellator.

There are girls are out there, and they are talented and driven, but they are spread across the full country and every weight class from atom weight to feather weight, meaning divisions are shallow and costs to travel and accommodate are substantial, scaring most promoters away. The amateur divisions are where the most opportunity lies, girls seem to stay amateur a lot longer than their male counter parts and that is very evident as girls go pro, after one maybe two fights we are running out of options for them and girls seem to spend a frustrating amount of time looking for opponents.

Eternal will continue to seek out the most promising female athletes in Australia and give them a platform to perform on whither they are amateur or pro.

If you are a female who would like to compete in MMA, or currently compete in MMA and want to give yourself the best options on the biggest platform in the country get in touch with Eternal MMA now and let us help you chase your dreams.

Eternal MMA 46 on Saturday July 27 currently features two WMMA bouts. Tickets are on sale now via Eventbrite.
